Message from the Chairman

Dear Residents,

On behalf of the Lower Kenilworth Improvement District (LKID) we extend a warm welcome to you and your family to our community. The LKID is a statutory body established under the City of Cape Town CID by-law, to procure security and top-up services to improve safety & security, cleanliness and efficient management of our suburb. The LKID is funded by way of an incremental property rate collected from all ratepayers, by the City, and paid over to our non-profit company.

The benefits for the community are :

• A safer, cleaner and greener public environment.

• We partner with local NGO's to find solutions to assist the jobless and homeless in our area

• Shortened communication with the City to ensure service delivery

• A transparent Business Plan and Annual Budget whereby residents can see exactly how their additional rates are spent.

• Our area becomes more attractive to potential buyers.

When did the LKID start?

Timeline and Process:

September 2019:   We received sufficient votes to move ahead with the process and sent the documentation to the City for appraisal. 

January 2020:   A community meeting was held, with City representatives in attendance, where the plan was discussed and information provided. 

1 July 2020:  Our Improvement District was officially launched.
